BROOKLAND, AR (KAIT) - Law enforcement officials met with representatives from several organizations to combat some safety issues. The group met at Brookland Elementary this morning to raise awareness about Act 811 which prohibits smoking in a vehicle with anyone fourteen years of age or younger.
They also discussed a cell phone law that says no one can be on their phone while in a school zone. Two students from Valley View with the youth leadership group said they didn't know about these laws.
"I had no idea that you couldn't use a phone on school property or in a school zone," said Chanel Tran of Valley View High.
"I was surprised," said Sonali Das, a junior at Valley View High. "I had no idea about this rule and I see a lot of people everyday use their phones on school property."
Representatives from the Jonesboro Police Department, Craighead County Sheriff's Department, Tobacco Free Coalition, and CRDC attended the meeting
