John Barranco named Sun Belt Associate Commissioner for Corporate Sales and Marketing

A familiar face to the New Orleans business community will join the Sun Belt Conference as John Barranco has been named the league's Associate Commissioner for Corporate Sales and Marketing.  The announcement was made by Sun Belt Commissioner Karl Benson.
 
"John is a key addition to our staff," said Benson.  "The notoriety of our league both in the city of New Orleans and around the country continues to grow and because of this there are more opportunities for corporate sponsorship and sales.  We also realize that the Sun Belt Conference must drive forward with marketing projects that showcase our new brand.  John is tremendously talented in these areas."
 
Barranco will be responsible for the Sun Belt Conference's corporate sales program which will drive new sponsors for the conference, its member institutions and the league's championship events.  The Birmingham native will also oversee the creation and implementation of a strategic marketing plan for the Conference that will be centered on positioning and growing the Sun Belt brand.
 
"This is an exciting time to join the Sun Belt Conference," said Barranco.  "I am looking forward to being part of the evolving brand and the momentum that the Sun Belt is building off of.  I can't wait to start spreading the Sun Belt name and I thank Commissioner Benson for giving me this opportunity."
 
Barranco comes to the Sun Belt from Cox Sports Television (CST) Network, a division of Cox Communications Louisiana, LLC, where he spent the last five years.  While with Cox he was responsible for core and digital advertising sales and his efforts led to an over 300% increase in total advertising sales on CST from the beginning of 2008 until the end of 2012.
 
Prior to his time with Cox, Barranco served as the Associate Athletic Director for External Relations for the University of New Orleans Athletic Department.  During his five years with the Privateers, he was responsible for all external revenue generation for the athletic department including ticket sales, fundraising and corporate partnerships.  Barranco was also responsible for marketing and promotions of all events related to UNO Athletics and he helped with the implementation of gameday activities, community outreach programs, as well as group and individual ticket sales.
 
Barranco originally came to New Orleans as an Account Manager for Tulane University's partnership with International Sports Properties.  Previously he had worked as a Marketing Coordinator for the University of Alabama-Birmingham Athletic Department.  
 
Barranco counts multiple honors and awards while also spending time in public service.  He received the Cox Winner's Circle Award for 2010, 2011 and 2012 – which is the national award for sales consultants at Cox Communications.  In 2012 he was presented with the Digital Media President Award, which is given to the top seller of digital media in the country for Cox Media.
 
He was the co-founder and Executive Director of the Leon V. Rosato, Sr. Memorial Golf Tournament benefiting United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Birmingham.   From 1999 to 2008, the tournament raised over $130,000 for UCP of Birmingham.  In New Orleans, he has been a member and venue captain since 2007 for the FORE!Kids Foundation which funds children's service organizations through golf events like the PGA Tour's Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
 
A 1999 graduate of UAB, Barranco earned a B.A. in Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations.  He is married to the former Natalie Hebert and the couple has one son – Dominic.
