BROOKLINE, MA (KAIT) - A Red Wolf and two Razorbacks are in the field for one of the biggest events in golf. Chance Holden, Sebastian Cappelen, and Taylor Moore are playing in the 113th U.S. Amateur Championship.
Holden started on hole 10. The ASU senior only carded one birdie en route to a 79. That bird came at the longest hole, the 605 yard par 5 12th.
Cappelen shot an opening round 73 (+3). The Danish Razorback birdied the par 4 5th. Fellow Hog Taylor Moore shot +8.
Poplar Bluff native Carr Vernon shot a 5-over 75. The freshman at Akron birdied a pair of par 4's. Fayetteville native Sam Hudson struggled, shooting 81.
The field of 312 golfers will play 18 more holes of stroke play on Tuesday. The top 64 players will advance to match play on Wednesday. The top two finishers in the tournament qualify for the 2014 U.S. Open and the 2014 Masters.
