WEST HARRISON, IN (GoBearcats.com) - The University of Cincinnati football team added transfer wide receiver Mekale McKay (Louisville, Ky./Moore/Arkansas) to its 2013 roster, Head Coach Tommy Tuberville announced Wednesday.
McKay will sit out the 2013 season and practice with the Bearcats as a redshirt freshman due to NCAA transfer regulations. He will have three years of eligibility remaining in the fall of 2014.
"We are glad to welcome Mekale to the Bearcats family," Tuberville said. "He's very talented and has shown the ability to be a downfield threat. Looking at him on film, he's a heck of an athlete and will make our receiving corps better."
The 6-foot-6, 195-pound wideout had 21 catches for 217 yards and a pair of touchdowns as a true freshman for the Razorbacks in 2012. He showed big-play ability, tying for third among Southeastern Conference freshmen with eight catches of 15 or more yards and three receptions of 25 yards or more.
He had a career-long catch of 61 yards against Louisiana-Monroe and finished with a season-high 74 yards on two receptions against Jacksonville State. He had eight catches for 124 yards and a touchdown in the last three games of 2012.
