TRUMANN -- Gas is $1.57 per gallon in Trumann! Wal-Mart opened a new store in Trumann on Wednesday. The store brought Murphy Oil with them who brought low gas prices. As a result, the company is single handily rolling back the price of petro at all of Trumann's gas stations.

The price of gas at the Shell station, down the street from Wal-Mart, started at $1.78 per gallon Wednesday morning. Later that day prices plumited to $1.58 per gallon. As of Friday it was $1.57 per gallon. Gas at Murphy Oil started out at $1.67 per gallon Friday morning. Employees then dropped prices to $1.58 per gallon. By 2:00 p.m. Murphy dropped prices to $1.54 per gallon. Prices are so cheap local residents can't believe their eyes.

"I thought it was wrong I came over here to check."

"I wish I had enough money to buy all I could get."

Local residents aren't the only ones getting in on the fun. Hurricane Ivan evacuees are filling up before they head out back towards the coast.

"If we could get prices like this all the way home it would really make me happy.

Even Shell employees are getting a kick out of the competition.

"I think it's neat I hope it goes on down even more."

It will be interesting to see who waves the white flag first, but until then it's every gas station for itself.
