Two men arrested after pharmacy robbery

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Metro police arrested two men in Madison after a pharmacy robbery Sunday night.

Officers charged John Stewart, 27, and Matthew Chrisman, 26, with aggravated robbery.  Stewart faces an additional charge of evading arrest.

According to police, Stewart allegedly held up a Rite Aid on Robinson Road while Chrisman waited in a car outside.

"He jumped over the counter and began to remove pills from the pharmacy into a trash bag," said Capt. Ken Walburn in an email.  "Mr. Stewart fled from the building out of a back door and ran to a get away vehicle driven by Mr. Chrisman."

A witness described the suspects and their car to an officer who shared the information.

A short time later, police stopped the vehicle in Madison.

Police took Chrisman into custody without incident.   According to Walburn, Stewart ran away and was captured by a police K-9 unit.

"Officers recovered the stolen merchandise and money in the suspect's vehicle," Walburn said.  "Mr. Stewart was transported to Metro General Hospital for treatment of minor wounds sustained during the canine apprehension."
