Cool Springs YMCA closed after mold found inside

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

People who exercise at the YMCA in Cool Springs will have to go elsewhere for the next three months. The facility is closed because mold was found inside.

A representative said crews were demolishing the men's locker room for a renovation project about a month ago when they discovered mold behind a wall.

YMCA officials contacted the building owner, who wanted to do more exploratory demolition to make sure there's no more mold.

That meant the entire facility had to close.

"The safety of our clients is the first priority, and so we're grateful to the property owner who's willing to do the exploratory demolition and just ensure that everything is repaired in the correct way," said Jessica Fain, spokeswoman for YMCA of Middle Tennessee.

There is no word what type of mold was found.

The Cool Springs Y will be closed at least 90 days, and members who only belong to that location will be allowed at other YMCA facilities in the area during that time.
