"In the movies, we always see women hanging right there with the men, being able to take them down," says Self Defense Instructor Jessica Scarsella. "But in real life, it won't be that easy."

    Self Defense 101: Aikido

It's the last thing you want to think about - being the victim of an attack. And it can be a real concern for women.

Over two million women in the United States are attacked every year. That's about 600 women a day.

A lot of women are attacked by someone they know, and this information is going to focus on rape and unwanted advances.

Self-defense expert Nelson Nio works with young women teaching them potential life saving skills—no matter how big the attacker or how small you are, you can fight back.

In fact, one of Nelson's students was attacked by an associate while they were on a business trip. He asked her to come to his room to go over some research. He seemed like a nice guy, she knew him, how could anything go wrong? But the minute they stepped into the room he was all over her. He threw her on the bed, and pinned her down. Luckily she was one of Nelson's students and knew what to do.

Now if you're being pinned down, whenever you have room between you and him, always bring your knees in. Push the attacker all the way with your hip. And then put one foot at a time on your attacker's chest and then push him off. This technique is very effective because it gives you power through your thighs and hips.

So remember - if you find yourself in a dangerous situation, thrown down on the ground or a bed, you don't have to be a victim.
