Craighead County Couple Celebrates Their 74th Wedding Anniversary

September 19, 2004--Posted 8:00 p.m. CDT

CARAWAY --Some people would say Ode and Bea Ward grew up together."Ode was 18, and I was 20. I said I would take him to raise, and I think I made a mess of him,"said Bea Ward.

Seventy four years later, memories from the day they married are as vivid for them as if it were yesterday."Happiest day of my life I guess," said Ode Ward.

Ode and Bea Ward married on September 20th, 1930. Today, as the family celebrates their 74th wedding anniversary, they reminisce on the past 74 years, and make plans for years to come. "Never had a fuss that lasted 10 minutes. Never had very many of them," said Bea Ward.

The smiles on their faces reflect from the laughter in their hearts. They have loved each other for a lifetime. Memories decorate the walls. Spaces have been left to be filled in as time passes. Hand and hand they have traveled life's rocky road, and they will continue to face challenges the same way they've done so for the past 74 years.......together.

On Sunday, the couple was presented with a citation recognizing their 74th wedding anniversary.
