ASU Women's Soccer opens 2013 season this weekend

JONESBORO, Ark. ( — The Arkansas State athletics season will officially get underway this weekend when the Red Wolves women's soccer team kicks off its 2013 season at 4 p.m. on Friday against the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss at the ASU Soccer Complex.

With two weeks of preseason workouts under their belt, the Red Wolves will take to the field for its regular season opener at home for the first time since 2010 and start their journey on a return to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

A-State enters the 2013 campaign with its top two scores on the team from a year ago. Junior Christina Fink notched nine goals and seven assists while Loren Mitchell had seven goals and three assists as the Red Wolves put together an 11-win season.

The pair also earned Preseason All-SBC honors this past week, while the Red Wolves were picked to finish second in the conference in the preseason as voted on by the league's nine head coaches. Fink and Mitchell, along with teammate Ashley Jackson were selected as Preseason All-SBC First-Team members by, while Katey Carmichael garnered second-team honors from the website.

Following the match with Southern Miss, A-State will travel to Starkville, Miss., to take on Mississippi State at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
