Springfield police investigate early morning shootout

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Police are investigating an overnight shootout in the city's Forest Park section.

The incident on Johnson Street began just before 2 a.m. on Saturday.

CBS 3 media partner Mass Live and The Republican reported a small child called police saying he was scared by all of the fighting.

Police said it appears that there was a shootout between at least two people and an estimated 12 shots were fired.

In the fray, two vehicles were damaged in the gunfire but it appears no one was injured.

While police were investigating the shooting, two Springfield residents, Edward Watson and Felix Ward-Smith, were arrested for fighting not far from the scene.

They will be arraigned in Springfield District Court on Monday morning.
