Justices of the Peace amend budgets, add positions

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Craighead County Justices of the Peace unanimously approved amending budgets for new positions in the county.

The Sheriff Department's general budget was amended to add a new school resource officer for the Bay School District. That SRO will be the second school resource officer through the Craighead County Sheriff's Department. The other is at Westside.

Justices also discussed adding a part time position to the Drug Task Force.

Assistant to the County Judge, Tony Thomas said the money allotted to DTF won't affect the county's general funds.

"We're adding funds to their budget that they will fully reimburse us," Thomas explained. "Based upon the fees that they collect from what they do and the forfeitures that they receive as a part of that process, they fully reimburse us for any personnel that's included in our accounting process."

Thomas said the Drug Task Force did not have part time positions in their initial budget but recognized the need throughout the year.

The Drug Task Force will be funded $4,758 that they will pay back. The Salary for the School Resource Officer is a little over $15,641 plus benefits.
