A-State Women's Cross Country ranked 10th in preseason South Central Region Poll

From Arkansas State University

The Arkansas State University women's cross country team will enter the 2013 season ranked 10th in the United States Track andField/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) 2013 Preseason NCAA Division I Women's Cross Country South Central Region Rankings as announced this Monday (Aug. 26) by the USTFCCCA.

The Red Wolves, who are coached by Jim Patchell and Kyle Chandler, were the lone Sun Belt Conference (SBC) representative in the 15-team South Central Region Rankings.  Arkansas occupied the top placing followed by Texas and Texas A&M.  SMU along with UT-San Antonio round out the top five teams in the preseason forecast.

The USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning team strength with current-season results in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.

Arkansas State returns nine letter winners from last season's squad, highlighted by 2012 All-Sun Belt Conference First-Team and All-South Central Region performer Kristina Aubert.  Joining the A-State senior are sophomore Abbey Dixon and junior Rexi Parcells, who both achieved second-team all-conference laurels a year ago.

A-State registered a program-record ninth-place finish at the South Central Regional Championships (11/9) and produced a program-best second-place performance at the Sun Belt Conference Championships (10/27).  The Red Wolves also recorded their highest placing ever by attaining ninth place in the final USTFCCCA Division I South Central Regional Rankings (10/29).

The Red Wolves will open their 2013 season this Saturday (Aug. 31) at the Memphis Twilight Classic in Memphis, Tenn., with the University of Memphis hosting the season-opening meet.
