OTTAWA HILLS, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Police in Ottawa Hills are asking for help finding a man they say broke into the Ottawa Hills High School and stole a laptop.

Because the crime happened at a school, police say they are taking it very seriously, and they want parents to know that officers are keeping a close eye on all the school buildings.

Detective Carl Reuther says the department is monitoring the situation closely, but residents are warned to keep an eye out for the man seen in surveillance footage.

"He was identified as a black male, late teens/early 20s, approximately 5'8", 5'9", approximately 170 pounds," Reuther said.

The detective says they believe this is the same man that has been trying to open car and house doors in the area.

An officer on duty Monday stopped a man on a bike that fit the description of the suspect, but the man took off.

Now police have a request of the public:

"If you would help us by locking your doors - your car doors, your house doors – and that sort of thing, and if there's, again, any suspicious activities, please call us," Reuther said.

People can call the Ottawa Hills Police Department at 419-531-4211.
