Metro police officer hurt in crash downtown

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Metro police officer was injured in a crash while on duty Wednesday in downtown Nashville.

The officer, who was patrolling on a scooter, was hit by a car near the intersection of 6th Avenue North and Commerce.

The officer, whose identity has not been released, was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but supervisors say he is expected to be OK.

Investigators say the officer was headed down 6th from Church Street when his scooter collided with a car that was pulling out of a parking space.
