TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Toledo Police recently hosted more than a dozen law enforcement agencies from across Ohio to show them how Toledo tackles crime.

TPD is part of the Northern Ohio Violent Crime Consortium (NOVCC), a group of federal and local law enforcement groups working together to fight violent crime. On Wednesday, the focus was on the Glass City and how TPD has been blazing a trail to lower the numbers with the presence of cameras.

"Not just tough on crime, but smart on crime. That's what my boss, the Attorney General, has told us," said Steve Dettelbach, an attorney in the Northern District of Ohio. "He would have liked what we all saw here today, courtesy of the Toledo Police Department."

TPD Chief Derrick Diggs has put a laser focus on using technology to help move his force forward to keep the public safe.

"We're utilizing the best practices to enhance safety in this community, and to bring down crime," Chief Diggs said. "Crime is going down in this community, and it will continue to go down as long as we continue to utilize technology."

Members of NOVCC say working together and learning from other departments makes this region safer, and seeing the forward movement in Toledo should speak volumes to the people TPD protects.

"The Toledo Police Department has their backs," Dettelbach said. "I should tell the people who are thinking of doing criminal activity or acts of violence in Toledo that the police department is watching you. They are watching you 24 hours a day, seven days a week, better than they ever have before."
