JONESBORO, Ark. (AStateRedWolves.com) — The Arkansas State women's soccer program will look to continue its perfect against Central Arkansas Friday, Aug. 30 when it travels to Conway, Ark., for the squad's second road match of the season.
The Red Wolves are a perfect 5-0 against the Bears in a series that dates back to the 2007 season. ASU is coming off a tough weekend in which it tied with Southern Miss in its regular season opener and then suffered a setback against Mississippi State.
Christina Fink and Loren Mitchell came close to tying their career highs for shots in a game with four each against the Golden Eagles and the Red Wolves held a one goal advantage through the first 45 minutes of the match. However, Southern Miss battled and the match ended in a 2-2 draw, marking the third time in the last four years that the Red Wolves have earned a tie in the regular season opener.
Central Arkansas enters the match with a 2-0 record after collecting wins against Mississippi Valley State and Louisiana Tech during the opening weekend of competition. In addition, the Bears have yet to allow an opponent to score a goal this season.
A-State will return home Tuesday, Sept. 3 to face Missouri State at 1 p.m. at the ASU Soccer Complex. The Bears lead the all-time series 1-0 but have lost both of their matches thus far in 2013. The squad will play Kansas Aug. 30 before battling the Red Wolves on Tuesday.
