JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A wind turbine company once thought to bring hundreds of jobs to Jonesboro, will now pay the state and city back millions in grants.

According to a news release by the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, Nordex USA, Inc. will repay more than $2.5 million in grants received to start manufacturing facilities in Jonesboro.

The AEDC stated Friday:

"A total of $3.91 million of the Governor's Quick Action Fund was paid out for the project -- $2.51 million for site preparation, a training facility and training expenses, and another $1.4 million to the City of Jonesboro for rail and road work which remain as infrastructure improvements.  The state will recoup nearly $2.31 million and the City of Jonesboro $204,814."

Nordex has already return more than $263,000 to the state when the company realized layoffs were close at hand.

Nordex announced layoffs in June affecting 40 employees beginning October 2013. The layoffs include production jobs at the Chicago facility as well.
