Region's Bank and Craighead Co. Farm Bureau host a "Rice Tasting"

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - September is "Rice Month" and the women's committee of the Craighead County Farm Bureau want Region 8 residents to get excited about rice.

A "Rice Tasting" event was held in the lobby of Region's Bank in Jonesboro, Friday. An assortment of rice dishes as tasty treats were presented to educate the public on the production and manufacturing of rice. Lydia Price, Miss Craighead County Rice, was on hand to greet and serve guests her own special dish.

Jim Tubbs, Executive Vice President for Region's Bank, says this event is something they've been a part of for years.

"We have a huge industry in the rice industry.  The rice producers produce a lot of revenue for our area and we're proud to be part of it," Tubbs said.

"During the month of September our farmers are out in the field harvesting the rice.  So, this is a great month for us to educate the public about what goes on in the process of getting the grain, the rice out of the field, into the mills and into the stores," said Karie Gibson of the Women's Craighead County Farm Bureau.

Region's Bank and Farm Bureau have hosted the rice event since 1996
