Food bank asks Region 8 to take action against hunger

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas asked Region 8 to take action this month for Hunger Action Awareness Month.

Starting Thursday, they're asking residents to wear orange as a part of Go Orange Day. They're also opening the doors of the distribution and giving tours of the facility all day long. Vicki Pillow with the Food Bank said they currently serve 51-hundred people a week and the need is going up.

"We continue to have families who have never been to one of our partner food pantries before, coming and needing that temporary food assistance," said Pillow.

Arkansas is currently tied with Mississippi as the state with the highest rate of hunger insecurity in the country.
