Closed Plastics Plant in St. Francis County on Short List for California Firm

SEPTEMBER 22, 2004 - Posted at 5:00 p.m. CDT

COLT, AR - A plastics plant that closed earlier this year may see new life if state and local officials can convince a California company to move to the site.

The RBX Industries plant in Colt closed in April, leaving about 140 people out of work.

St. Francis and Cross counties are working with the state to bring in the California plant.

Bill Thomas with the Cross County Area Chamber of Commerce says the Colt location is one of two finalists for the plant.  The other is in Texas.

The company should make a decision within a few weeks.  Thomas says reopening the plant could bring between 170 and 300 jobs.
