Bielema: Razorbacks need to avoid stumbles

LITTLE ROCK, AR (AP) - Arkansas improved to 2-0 on the year and has one more home game before its schedule takes a serious turn.

The Razorbacks beat Samford 31-21 on Saturday in a win that helped ease the memory of their 0-2 performance in Little Rock last season.

Coach Bret Bielema said the team still has a long way to go before beginning SEC play. Two fumbles and a lapse into a defensive "funk" enabled Samford (1-1) of the FCS Southern Conference to take a 21-17 lead in the third quarter.

In the end, Arkansas' tailback tandem of Alex Collins and Jonathan Williams, with help from fullback Kiero Small, put the game away. Quarterback Brandon Allen finished 9 of 17 passing with two touchdowns and no interceptions, but didn't throw a pass in the fourth quarter.

Next Saturday, Arkansas takes on Southern Mississippi, which has lost 14 straight, including a 56-13 pasting by Nebraska on Saturday.
