JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – The Northeast Arkansas District Fair is gearing up for its second year at the new fair grounds, and officials say they're working to fix the traffic issue they had last year. General Manager, Jerry Reece, said they'll be working with the Jonesboro Police Department to help avoid congestion on highway 49.
"They're doing an excellent job of planning," said Reece. "They've been drawing plans, measuring, surveying and they've got a plan for what they can do."
Officers will be there to prevent the same chaos they had last year, with people trying to make their way into the parking lot.
"Jonesboro Police Officers will be on the highway directing traffic to make sure we don't have congestion at the entrance," said Reece.
However, preventing congestion on the roads takes more than just directing the traffic.
"They're going to be controlling the signal light north of the fair grounds," said Reece.
It's an effort from the police department that will take place all week long.
"They are going to start Monday and go all the way through Saturday," said Reece. "Every night it will be handled by them."
