JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The anniversary of the September 11th attacks was observed today at the Mall at Turtle Creek in Jonesboro.
Veterans, firefighters and police officers held a ceremony in honor of "Patriots' Day" in the center court. This event was held to acknowledge the lives of those lost during the 2001 attacks.
"Remembering what happened, the loss of innocent lives and things of that nature, but at the same time pull back and our people here is to honor them, our men and women in uniform," said Mayor Harold Perrin of Jonesboro.
"It's still fresh in everyone's mind. It's fresh in our minds from the emergency responders' point of view. And it's an opportunity to remember those for the sacrifice they provided to America back then," Kevin Miller, Jonesboro Fire Chief said.
Participants hope today's ceremony will also instill awareness among younger generations.
