Accused bank robber admits to six other Jonesboro robberies

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - He's admitted to seven robberies in Jonesboro over the span of five months. Ranging from convenience stores, to dollar general stores to a local bank, Justin Cobb could face a lot of prison time if he's convicted on those charges.

Cobb's arrest for robbing Liberty Bank in April got police thinking.

"The similarities seen throughout all of these cases gave us reason to look a little deeper," Detective Vic Brooks told Region 8 News.

It also had them looking back to a string of robberies that had Jonesboro residents on edge.

"These robberies that began back in December of last year," Brooks explained. They continued for five weeks.

"From some of these robberies, we were able to collect evidence that did contain DNA."

DNA sent to the state crime lab that came back this week and connected Cobb to the previous robberies. And if that wasn't enough, "Mr. Cobb did admit that he was the person responsible for the five initial aggravated robberies," Brooks said.

Before court on Thursday, Cobb admitted to yet another robbery, bringing the grand total to seven in five months.

"Having Mr. Cobb in custody to where these violent acts cannot be committed is a great relief," Brooks said.

A federal grand jury indicted Cobb for the bank robbery Wednesday. For that, he could face a maximum total of 35 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

The six additional robbery charges he faces could tack on even more jail time.

"With each individual count, you could be looking at the maximum of six life sentences," Brooks said.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Cobb told police he did it because he did not have any money and was high on drugs.
Cobb is set to be back in court on October 31.
