The Arkansas State University men's and women's cross country teams return to action this Friday (Sept. 13) afternoon as the Red Wolves participate in Saint Louis University's Big River Cross Country Festival meet in St. Louis, Mo.
A-State, which was idle this past weekend, will be running in its second meet of the2013 season. The women's 5K race will get underway at 4:30 p.m. (CT) on the Central Fields Course in Forest Park while the men's event is a 6K and commences at 5:15 p.m. (CT).
The meet will mark a homecoming of sorts for several A-State runners on the men's and women's squads, who hail from Missouri and Illinois. Freshman Denton Postlewait, sophomore Andre Walker, and freshman Mark Talarico are from Missouri or Illinois. On thewomen's side, juniors Heather Hammett, Kristina Aubert, and Heather Newberry along with freshmen Holly Sando and Brianne Murphy are from the area.
"This race location provides the family and friends of these runners an easier commute to support them," said A-State Cross Country Head Coach Kyle Chandler. "For the races, I'm anxious to see how our teams continue to mature and work together in competing against teams from this region."
The Arkansas State women's team entered this fall ranked 10th in the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USFTCCCA) 2013 Preseason NCAA Division I Women's Cross Country South Central Region Rankings.
