WBC Volleyball splits conference matches

The Williams Baptist College Lady Eagles volleyball squad started their home and conference opener with a victory over Harris-Stowe State University on Friday in Walnut Ridge.

Williams swept Harris-Stowe in straight sets (25-9, 25-14, 25-12) and was in full control throughout the entire match.

Madison Laubach led the Lady Eagles attack with seven kills, with Harley Strayhorn, Brooke Howell and Jennessa Gattis each adding five kills, each. Makenna Wiedower also had 13 assists and Shelby Upshaw added nine digs to lead the Eagles defense.

Williams would face 18th ranked Missouri Baptist the following day and would fall in straight sets (22-25, 17-25, 15-25).

For the Eagles, Emily Umbaugh and Laubach had seven kills, respectively. Wiedower had 14 assists and Taylor Barton contributed with 12 assists. Upshaw had seven digs.

Williams is now 7-2 on the season and 1-1 in conference. Their next scheduled game is a conference contest against 11th ranked Park. The game will be played on September 20th in Walnut Ridge with the start time scheduled for 7 pm.
