Body found in Pocahontas identified as missing carnival worker

POCAHONTAS, AR (KAIT) - Police say a body found late Wednesday morning on Nicholas Street is that of a carnival worker that went missing.

Pocahontas Police Chief Cecil Tackett says the body was identified as Mathew St. Amant, 26, of Church Point, Louisiana. The Arkansas State Crime Lab made the identification through finger prints.  The cause of death is still under investigation.

St. Amant had been reported missing on September 5 from the fairgrounds.

"One of the carnival workers had reported somebody was missing at that time," Tackett said. According to a missing persons report obtained by Region 8 News, the carnival worker was reported missing from his relative.

St. Amant's relative told police they hadn't been able to get in touch with him and his fair group hadn't seen him in days.

Police tell Region 8 News it was yard work that led to that gruesome discovery Wednesday morning.

"Found what he thought was a body. We arrived on scene and it appears to be a human body, or remains of a human body."

Tackett told Region 8 News that three weeks ago, his department did receive a report of a missing person.

Chief Tackett said no one in the neighborhood reported any kind of suspicious activity lately.

We'll update you on the story when more information becomes available.
