PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - Mission Outreach received help in a big way Tuesday night.

Their third annual Mission Outreach Banquet raised $16,400 through ticket sales, a silent auction and corporate sponsorships.

Two local legislators also gave the Mission a boost.

Senator Robert Thompson presented Mission Outreach with a check for a $25,000 grant, followed by a $20,000 grant provided by Representative Mary Broadaway.

Mission Outreach Board Member, Tony Lucius told Region 8 News the organization hopes events like this let people know exactly what Mission Outreach does for the community.

"We house the homeless, we feed the hungry and we care for the sick. Those are our primary functions as Mission Outreach," Lucius said. "There's a lot of people out there that maybe don't have a good perception or correct perception of what the Mission does."

So to a crowd of nearly 250 people, they explained.

As a result of money raised in 2012, Mission outreach was able to house over 600 people as well as feed those in need three times a day and provide prescriptions for those in need.

The money raised through Tuesday night's event will go toward benevolent services for the organization.

Governor Mike Beebe also spoke at the event on the importance of working to end hunger and homelessness in Arkansas.
