Baxter Co. man arrested twice in one month for drug charges

BAXTER COUNTY, AR (KAIT) – A Baxter County man was arrested for the second time this month on felony drug charges.

The Baxter County Sheriff's Office responded to a complaint that a man was slumped over the steering wheel of a pick-up truck Wednesday.

A deputy arrived at the scene on Baxter CR 625 and spotted the vehicle. According to officer, the driver appeared to be passed out.

As the deputy approached the truck, "he saw a loaded syringe in the right hand of the driver." The man was identified as Ben Gary Dacus, 29, who had previous been arrested on Sept. 9 for outstanding felony drug warrants and was out on bond.

Dacus admitted to the deputy that the syringe contained methamphetamine. During a search of the vehicle, officers discovered 0.4 grams of meth, three hydrocodone pill, syringes, a digital scale, two glass pipes and other paraphernalia. A loaded pistol was also found in the truck.

Dacus was taken to the Baxter County Dentition Center. He was charged with simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Dacus is being held on a $25,000 bond and will appear in the Baxter County Circuit Court on Sept.26.
