HOLYOKE, MA (WSHM) -

A little girl from Palmer is lending a helping hand to the Holyoke Police Department's K-9 Unit.

Allison Henry, 10, asked family and friends to bring donations instead of gifts to her birthday party.

She wanted to raise enough money to buy a vest for one of the department's dogs.

On Thursday afternoon, Allison presented that vest to K-9 Ryker.

"I feel better to know that they're safe because some things have happened to K-9 dogs and Ryker is really fun," said Allison.

Allison got a certificate of appreciation for her donation.

The Holyoke Police Department also introduced two new K-9 officer dogs.
