JONESBORO--The Federal Government has declared September "National Preparedness Month".

The goal is to educate people about steps they need to take in order to be prepared in the event of a disaster.

This includes not only disasters like terrorism, but also events such as flooding or earthquakes.

Officials in Craighead County, in conjunction with the Federal Government, are making sure folks here in Region 8 are ready if disaster strikes.

Jack Richardson works for the Craighead County Office of Emergency Management here in Jonesboro.

"Any disaster that causes widespread damage you are going to have to take care of yourself until the responders get there. Having water, food, flashlights, your medicine those type of things ready is important,"said Richardson.
