Twitter has risen to the occasion once again, turning the government shutdown into something both hilarious and creepy. Some tweets are safer for work than others.
Among the many things that have come from Congress' inability to reach a budget agreement is a new trending Twitter hashtag #GovernmentShutdownPickupLines. It's so popular that a misspelled version of the hashtag is also a trending topic.
If your heart isn't chained down like the Lincoln Memorial, this may be the perfect opportunity for you to find Mr. or Miss Right(wing).
If you're lucky, the relationship may last longer than the shutdown, which shows no signs of ending any time soon.
Republicans in the House of Representatives and Democrats in the Senate have been sending competing legislation back-and-forth for the other to reject, meaning hundreds of thousands of government workers are temporarily out of a job.
If you're on furlough, call me, maybe?
The last time the government shut down was in 1995, long before Twitter had hatched.
It isn't known if any of the new pickup lines have worked yet, though it's hard to imagine they have, especially considering the explicit nature of some of them.
NASA is losing 97 percent of its funding, and I'm losing 97 percent of my inhibitions.
