Arkansas State, under the direction of sixth-year head coach John Brady, will hold its initial practice on Tuesday (Oct. 8) from 3-6 p.m. (CT) in the Convocation Center on the A-State campus and all Red Wolves' fans are invited to attend.  A-State will have over 30 practices leading up to their exhibition opener Saturday, Nov. 2, against Henderson State at the Convocation Center.  The Red Wolves square off against Arkansas-Monticello Tuesday, Nov. 5, in a home exhibition tilt before officially starting their regular season with a Nov. 11 non-conference game at JacksonState.  The regular-season home opener for A-State takes place Nov. 13 with Tennessee-Martin providing the opposition.

"We are excited about beginning practice officially for the upcoming season," said Brady.  "We have our normal 32 to 35 practices before we play our first game plus the extra preparation we had for the Canada trip.  I like our team and our ability to defend, rebound and play unselfishly we be keys for this team in terms of its success.  I hope our fans will buy season tickets and really get behind this team.  What a difference a supportive crowd can make."

The Red Wolves have eight letterwinners returning from last season's 19-12 team, including top scorer in senior guard Ed Townsel (13.1 ppg.).  A-State also welcomes back sophomore guard Cameron Golden (7.4 ppg.) and senior forward Kendrick Washington (7.1 ppg. and 4.6 rpg.).  Joining the trio will be three talented senior transfers in forward Kirk Van Slyke, guard Melvin Johnson III, and guard Brandon Reed, who earned 2009-10 Sun Belt Conference (SBC) Freshman of the Year recognition while at A-State.

A season ago, A-State also claimed its second SBC West Division Championship title in three years with a first-place 12-8 conference division ledger.  The Red Wolves' 19 victories represented the program's most since the 1997-98 campaign and marked the 15th time in the last 17 seasons in which A-State has achieved double-digit single-season wins.
