RAISIN TOWNSHIP, MI (Toledo News Now) -

An American soldier visiting Lenawee County on leave from the military has been charged with murder and assault.

Police say 31-year-old Brian James Madesa Gogue was stationed in South Korea, but released on leave over the weekend. Police believe Gogue was in the area to visit his estranged wife. Gogue is accused of strangling and killing a 20-year-old man, and stabbing another at a Raisin Township manufactured home Saturday morning.

Police have not said what sparked the violence. Those who knew the 20-year-old victim say they have no idea why someone would want to kill him.

"He was a real good worker, never had any problems with him. He was a good hearted guy," said Thomas Gonyea, who lived near and worked with the victim.

Gogue has entered a not guilty plea to all charges, and is due back in court on October 21.
