Two Troy players suspended for Georgia State matchup

NEW ORLEANS ( - The Sun Belt Conference announced today that two Troy football players, Chris Pickett and Tyler Roberts, have been suspended for the first half of Troy's upcoming football game on Saturday, October 12 at Georgia State.
The suspensions are a result of actions that took place in Troy's game against South Alabama this past Saturday.
Pickett was ejected from this past Saturday's game based on Rule 9-1-4 of the NCAA Football Rules and Interpretations which is defined as targeting and initiating contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless player.  The penalty was called on the field and the video review that was conducted confirmed the call.  By rule, this penalty carries an automatic disqualification from the game as well as a half game suspension.  Since this foul occurred late in the fourth quarter, Pickett will be suspended for the first half of the Georgia State game.
Roberts will be suspended for the first half of the Georgia State game based on rule 9-1-3 – targeting and initiating contact with the crown of the helmet.  Though no penalty call was made on the field, video review after the game showed that the player led with his head and initiates contact directly to the chest of the defenseless South Alabama quarterback with the crown of his helmet.  The play occurred late in the third quarter.
