Kristina Aubert earns 3rd SBC Cross Country weekly honor

New Orleans, La. ( – Junior Kristina Aubert of the Arkansas State University women's cross country team has been recognized for the third time this season as the Sun Belt Conference (SBC) Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week in an announcement made this Wednesday (Oct. 9) by the league office.

Earlier this fall, Aubert was bestowed with the SBC weekly award on two occasions -  Sept. 4 and Oct. 2.

Aubert paced the regionally-ranked Arkansas State squad at last Saturday's (Oct. 5) 12th annual Greater Louisville (Ky.) Cross Country Classic with a third-place time of 17:09.33 among the 288 runners. The Red Wolves placed eighth with 228 points in the 20-team NCAA Division I Gold Division 5K race.

This season, Aubert has placed among the top three individuals in each of her last three meets to date.  She claimed top medalist honors at the Saint Louis (Mo.) Big River Forest Park Festival meet (Sept. 13) and the Rhodes College Invitational (Sept. 28).

A 2012 first-team All-Sun Belt Conference performer, Aubert has now earned the conference weekly award in cross country eight times during her Arkansas State career.  The two-time (2010 and 2012) U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I All-South Central Region Team runner received conference weekly laurels on four occasions (Sept. 14, 28 and Oct. 5, 19) in 2010 and once (Oct.3) this past 2012 season.
Aubert holds the distinction of being A-State's first-ever women's national qualifier.  She also garnered both SBC's Freshman of the Year and all-conference laurels in the 2010 season.

The Red Wolves are presently ranked a program all-time best eighth place in thelatest (Oct. 7) United States Track and Field & Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I South Central Region Rankings after being listed 12th in the previous poll (Sept. 30).

The Arkansas State women's team, coached by Jim Patchell and Kyle Chandler, is idle this weekend before resuming action Saturday, Oct. 19, at two separatemeets.  The Red Wolves will have selected runners competing in the Indiana State Pre-Nationals Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind., while the rest of the team participates in the UALR Invitational at Little Rock, Ark.
