Police chase ends in Monroe, MI after armed robbery

MONROE, MI (Toledo News Now) -

An overnight police chase that started in east Toledo ended in Monroe, Michigan after police received calls on a reported armed robbery and shots fired.

Monroe Police say two male suspects robbed a woman of her purse in the 500 block of Howland in Toledo. They say the suspects fired shots at the woman's husband after they were chased by him on foot. Once Toledo Police arrived on scene, the two men drove off in a silver SUV and led them on a police chase on northbound I-75.

The chase ended after Monroe Police put spike strips on the highway just north of Laplaisance Road. The car's tires blew out, and the car swerved off the roadway. According to Monroe Police, once the vehicle crashed, the two suspects were arrested without incident. The two men were not hurt during the crash.

Arrested were Jose Costilla Jr. and Christopher Sargent, both of Toledo.

Both suspects are currently being held at the Monroe County Jail, and will be extradited back to Ohio. Monroe Police are charging the driver of the vehicle with fleeing and eluding police, and the passenger with receiving and concealing stolen property.

The victims in the incident were not injured.
