From Arkansas State University
Arkansas State head men's golf coach Steve Johnson and the Red Wolves golf team will welcome back 17 former lettermen this homecoming weekend when it holds its annual Alumni Golf Tournament on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Jonesboro Country Club.
The Red Wolves are holding the tournament for the fourth consecutive year, and the 10 members of the 2013-14 team will have the opportunity to compete against and visit with some of the players who passed through the program before them.
"I'm very excited this year to have a record number of returning alumni in fourth year of having the match," said Johnson. "The guys really look forward to this event and the rivalry has taken on a life of its own. It's always nice to see the former players that I've worked with, as well as those from (former head coach) Neil (Abel)'s era and see who can do the best Coach Abel and Coach Johnson impression! I must admit Tyler Thompson has me down pretty good! Tim Reeves and Kyle Krennerich played instrumental roles in organizing this event, so I also want to thank them for all their hard work to help make this happen."
Thompson is one of two former All-Sun Belt Conference selections that will be participating in the alumni match. Wixson Huffstetler was also an All-Sun Belt Conference selection during his career at A-State. The lettermen returning also includes seven players that were a member of at least one A-State team that qualified for the NCAA Regionals.
In addition to Thompson and Huffstetler, the other lettermen participating are Bart Burton, Kyle Christian, Alan Clark, Scott Crisco, Bryce Goad, Matt Howton, Matt Hubbard, Ryan Knoll, Kyle Krennerich, Jeremy Murray, Scott Nichols, Tim Reeves, Cory Williamson, Chris Woodard and Jared Woodard.
The current Red Wolves have played two tournaments so far this season, including the Sam H. Hall Intercollegiate and D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate. They return to action Oct. 15-16 at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate in Overland Park, Kan.
