Westin hotel may be in Nashville's future

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Another major luxury hotel may be popping up downtown.

The Omni opened last week, but officials with the Convention and Visitors Bureau said that's not enough.

"It's something the city definitely needs," said Nashville Mayor Karl Dean. "We definitely need more hotels."

Dean was responding to the latest report from The Tennessean that an out-of-town group is working on a plan to build a Westin near the Music City Center.

It would reportedly be a 30-story luxury hotel with 400 rooms that would sit on an acre of land.

So far, nothing has been finalized.

"Anyone who tries to get a hotel room in Nashville knows they are sold out constantly," said Dean. "There's a huge growing demand for hotels in our city. I think the city would really benefit from a full-service hotel."

The mayor said there are other options besides the Westin and that city leaders would consider any company that has a plan and the appropriate financing in place to build.
