Jonesboro tattoo parlor hosts "Blood for Ink" event

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)-The Black Arrow Tattoo shop in Jonesboro hosted a blood drive Saturday with the American Red Cross.

The owner of the tattoo shop, Freddie Bowers said the event helps to spread awareness about the blood banks available. This event is the first of its kind since the new regulations became active in August, allowing anyone with a tattoo to give blood.

Before, if you got a tattoo or piercing within the last year, you were not eligible to donate blood. Bowers said they really want to be involved in the community.

"We've done different projects and since I've started working with United Way, I realized working with a larger organization rather than doing everything on our own, the money doesn't go as far. You know, we don't have the connections that a larger non-profit has," Bowers said.

The event also had free BBQ, discounted piercings, and discount cards for donors. Black Arrow Tattoo also hosted a free after-event party with costume and DJ contests from 6:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Arts at 311.
