TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

A group of East Texas World War II veterans who went to Washington, D.C. on a Brookshire's Heroes Flight have returned home.

The group landed Saturday afternoon in Dallas and arrived back in Tyler where they were met by a cheering crowd. KLTV 7's Taylor Hemness was with them every step of the way and provided regular updates on their trip.

Their last day in the nation's capital was a memorable one. The veterans also got to witness protestors taking down barricades and climbing the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, as Park Service police stood by and watched. Before all this happened one of the East Texas veterans on the trip joined them, even holding one of their signs.
