From Arkansas State University
The Arkansas State
University Athletics Department's Academic Student Services has
recognized nine deserving A-State student-athletes as the first-ever
Pack Scholar Award recipients .
Those A-State student-athletes selected as Pack Scholars for September 2013 are Summer Sheppard (Women's Soccer), Mykel Ward (Women's Soccer), Devin Noel (Men's Track and Field), Makayla Douglas (Women's Bowling), Xavier Woodson (Football), Mark Johnson (Football), Jemar Clark (Football), Ed Townsel (Men's Basketball), and Kevin Fitzpatrick (Baseball).
The Pack Scholar Award is bestowed upon an A-State student-athlete who displaysconsistent effort, a positive attitude, academic improvement, preparedness, punctuality, and outstanding character and integrity.
The Award was created by A-State's Athletics Academic Coordinators, who wanted to acknowledge those Red Wolves' student-athletes who were doing extraordinary academic work and making significant strides academically while also serving as role models to other A-State student-athletes. As a result, a decision to recognize these deserving A-State student-athletes as Pack Scholars was made and to honor them for their noteworthy accomplishment on a monthly basis.
Every month during the academic year, the A-State Academic Coordinators select two to three student-athletes to receive the honor of being named a "Pack Scholar of the Month." Those student-athletes who are Pack Scholar of the Month Award recipients have their name and photo displayed in the academic coordinator's office, who selected them to receive this notable award. After each month has concluded, the Pack Scholar's photo is then transferred into the computer lab in the Charles F. Luter Family Academic Success Center in the Performance Enhancement Complex on the A-State campus and placed on an awards board for the remainder of the semester.
The monthly Pack Scholar Award winners are also recognized by their team's respective coach and student-athletes.
