ASU in 2nd place after Day 1 of Lady Red Wolf Classic
Jonesboro, Ark. (AStateRedWolves.com) – The Arkansas State women's golf team began play at the Lady Red Wolf Classic Monday, completing the first two rounds of its home tournament at Sage Meadows Country Club with a combined 587 that placed it second among seven teams.
A-State has nine players competing in the tournament, including five that comprise a "red team" and four that make up a "black team." The red squad, which is in second place, posted a first-round 301 before cutting 15 strokes off that total in the second to climb two spots in the standings. The black team ended the day in seventh place with a 652 (328-324).
The Red Wolves were led by freshman Maci Arrington, who is currently tied for second place with a 140. Arrington carded a 71 for the opening 18 holes and then fired a team-best 69 during the second round. Joining Arrington among the top-10 leaders for Arkansas State was Abi Laker, who is tied for sixth place with a 146 (74-72).
Also competing for A-State's red team, Marie Couffignal is in 12th place with a 150 (79-71), Megan Garland tied for 13th with a 152 (78-74) and Courtney Manning tied for 21st with a 157 (78-79).
Playing as part of the Red Wolves black squad, Libby Croom is in 23rd place with a 158 (80-78), Endsley Evans in 24th with a 159 (80-79), Clara Tefteller in 25th with a 161 (85-76) and Anna Flanrey in 35th with a 174 (83-91).
Louisiana-Monroe is currently in first place after shooting a 575, leaving it 12 strokes in front of Arkansas State entering tomorrow's play. The Red Wolves hold an 11-stroke lead over third-place Western Kentucky, while Central Arkansas is in fourth place, McLennan Community College in fifth and New Orleans in sixth.
Tomorrow's third and final round is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
