Valley View students receive school safety training

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Valley View Elementary has a new group on campus aimed at keeping students safe.

These students are "safety team members" selected by their teacher as an extra set of hands in times of crisis. They spent the day at the Jonesboro Police Department listening to emergency responders talk about what they do and how to get help.

Jake Sams, a second grader at Valley View learned how to stay safe during a fire. "Find a tree or something to meet your family in if a fire goes to your house so you'll know everybody's there or if they're in the house."

Representatives with the Jonesboro Police Department, Fire Department, Hospital Wing, E 911 and Medic One also spoke to the students.
