SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah Chatham Metro Police continue to investigate three separate shootings that happened in less than three days.

Police have not named any suspects yet, but they do say in two of the shootings, the victim and the shooter knew each other. Officials say now it's more important than ever to have more feet patrolling the neighborhoods.

"Wow, this city is getting more and more violent," said Herbert Fitzgerald, when he heard that police are investigating three shootings in less than three days.

One of them was less than a block away from where he lives on W. 38th Street and Barnard Street.

"The fact that less than a block away there was a guy that got injured that badly, I don't know, I'm going to have to start looking over my shoulder a little more," he said.

Tuesday a man was shot at Reynolds and 31st Street. Wednesday, another man was shot at LaRoach and Hughes Avenue. Early Thursday morning, around 1:00AM, a man was found shot inside a car at the intersection of West 38th street and Barnard Street. Police say he is in critical condition right now.

"Typically, most of our shootings, most of our homicides that we have in any given year, the victim and the subject who does the shooting know each other. Certainly it never excuses the crime," said Maj. Larry Branson commander of the Criminal Investigations Division.

With consecutive shootings, Savannah Chatham Metro Police is eargerly awaiting the help of 16 new officers.

Thursday interim Chief Juliette Tolbert congratulated them during a pinning ceremony. It was her first as acting chief. It's perfect timing, considering last night in a meeting with the downtown neighborhood association, homeowners asked the interim chief for more officers patrolling these streets.

"They're going to be out among the community talking to folks sharing information from the department, our partners with the media. So we're very excited about today and very excited about what lies ahead under Chief Tolbert," said Branson.

Investigators don't believe the three shootings are connected, and they're working every lead.
