COLUMBUS, OH (WBNS/CNN) - In Ohio, six people are dead after a police cruiser crashed into a vehicle.
It happened early Friday morning, in the Columbus suburb of Upper Arlington.
Investigators said the officer was driving with flashing lights and siren on while responding to a robbery at a local McDonald's.
The two vehicles crashed in an intersection.
All six people in the civilian car died. A husband and wife, along with their four children.
Authorities said the family was not wearing seatbelts and that the youngest victim, a 2-year-old child, was not in a car seat.
The officer was taken to a local hospital with a head injury, but he is expected to make a full recovery.
"That officer is Officer Shawn Paynter. He's been an officer with us since 2008 and has been assigned primarily to the patrol division. Officer Paynter is an exemplary officer with our department and is very caring, responsible and professional," Heather Galli said. "And right now, he did have head injuries from the accident and is currently at Riverside Hospital."
Investigators are not yet sure which driver had a green light at the time of the crash.
