BATESVILLE, AR (LYON) – The Lyon College volleyball took advantage of 25 Crowley's Ridge attack errors and six service miscues Saturday afternoon as the Scots secured their third win in their last five matches with a 25-9, 25-14, 25-21 sweep of the Lady Pioneers in James C. Becknell Gymnasium.
The Scots improved to 12-15 on the season in their final home game of the regular season and gave senior Ariel Smith a sweet sendoff during the team's Senior Day celebration on Homecoming weekend. The Scots will now close out the regular season with five straight American Midwest Conference road matchups. Lyon College will travel to Walnut Ridge, Ark. on Thursday to take on arch-rival Williams Baptist College at 7 p.m. to start the road trip.
Lyon is currently in sixth place in the AMC and must finish in the top four to earn a home match in the upcoming AMC Postseason Tournament. The Scots, who are 3-3 in conference play, are two games behind fourth-place Columbia (17-9, 5-1 AMC).
Smith (Wynne, Ark.) led the Scots on the defensive side, recording a game-high 13 digs. Adding support was junior Gina Reed (League City, Tex.), who posted seven, while junior Halley Watson (Pottersville, Mo.) and freshman Samantha Scalf (Brookland, Ark.) each tallied four digs.
Lyon recorded 10 blocks in the non-conference matchup. Sophomore Jordan Fleitman (Lindsey, Tex.) posted three blocks, while junior Christine Moore (Paragould, Ark.) and freshman Katarina Frickleton (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) each had a pair.
On the offensive end, sophomore Ferrin Macon (Conway, Ark.) tallied 29 assists, while Fleitman posted nine kills to lead the Scots. Frickleton totaled five kills, while Moore and sophomore Carson Ward (Hot Springs, Ark.) each finished with four. Frickleton had with a .556 attack percentage on the day, while freshman Stephanie Jones (Flippin, Ark.) hit .750.
