(Toledo News Now) -

A Toledo man is behind bars after police say he led them on a chase that spanned from Owens Community College in Perrysburg Township to downtown Toledo and hit a construction worker in the process.

Toledo Police say the chase began around 9:30 a.m. Monday when Owens Community College Police attempted to pull over a gray Eagle Talon driven by 25-year-old Robert Sinkey because the vehicle matched the description of a suspect vehicle in several home burglaries.

Police say Sinkey took off from the traffic stop and headed north on I-75 towards Toledo. Owens Community College Police, Northwood Police and Rossford Police gave chase. When the pursuit passed into Toledo on I-75, Toledo Police joined.

According to a police report, Sinkey exited I-75 at Collingwood Boulevard and hit 20-year-old Jarred James who was working on a construction site along Collingwood. Police say James flipped over the suspect's vehicle, shattering the wind shield. James was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated and released for serious but not life threatening injuries.

Sinkey continued down Collingwood after hitting James, until he reached Floyd Street, police say. At Floyd Street Sinkey jumped from his vehicle and continued to flee on foot, according to the report.

Police say after running a few blocks, Sinkey hopped into the driver's seat of a running car parked on Collingwood and took off. Police eventually stopped the vehicle on the Martin Luther King bridge and arrested Sinkey after a brief foot chase on the bridge.

"He left the car in gear jumped out of the vehicle and tried to escape off the bridge but we were able to apprehend him in a foot pursuit," said Toledo Police Sergeant Joe Heffernan.

Sinkey is charged with felonious assault, but could also face charges of grand theft auto, criminal damage and obstructing official business.

"He's going to be charged with felonious assault for striking Mr. James with his vehicle, he's going to be charged with grand theft auto and failure to comply for the vehicle pursuit," said Heffernan.
