Town hall to address veterans' questions about Agent Orange

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Veterans who may have been affected by Agent Orange can get their questions answered at an upcoming town hall meeting.

The Tennessee State Council of the Vietnam Veterans of America is putting on the meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Cornerstone Church in Madison.

Veterans or their families can get help on site, filing for benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Organizers say because Vietnam veterans were not welcomed home from the war the way they should've been, they don't always seek help when they need it.

"There are many Vietnam veterans who to this day have never gone to a VA hospital or maybe not even sought out any type of medical help for some kind of illness they might have," said Barry Rice, president of the Tennessee State Council of the Vietnam Veterans of America. "But when they see it's Vietnam Veterans of America, it's like they can come out and feel safe, because they can trust their brothers and their sisters."

The town hall meeting is open to veterans of all conflicts and their families, and hundreds turned out for a similar town hall in Knoxville this summer.
